Project Director
Nottingham
What you'll do
We are looking for an experienced Project Director to lead complex public sector infrastructure and built environment projects through the critical pre-contract and governance stages. This is a senior, client-facing role requiring strong client and stakeholder management, commercial awareness and the ability to bring structure, pace and clarity to the role of leading multidisciplinary project teams.
The ideal candidate
What you'll be doing:
- Client management including the commercial management and leadership of projects on behalf of Bentley
- Leading the pre-contract phase of major public sector infrastructure and built environment projects
- Establishing robust project governance, controls, reporting and decision-making structures
- Managing senior stakeholders, including public authorities, clients, consultants and delivery partners
- Provide strategic technical direction and oversight on major projects
- Providing strategic project leadership across multidisciplinary teams
- Supporting programme set-up, risk management and assurance activities
- Ensuring projects are well structured, commercially sound and ready for successful delivery
What we're looking for:
Our ideal candidate will be based in West / East Midlands or South Yorkshire. We have offices located in Nottingham and Manchester delivering projects across the Midlands and North.
You will have:
- Significant experience leading public sector infrastructure or built environment projects delivered in a Council environment
- Strong pre-contract experience, rather than experience focused solely on delivery or site-based activity
- A good understanding of the planning process, the design process and standards, procurement and construction processes
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, particularly with local authorities across various departments
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating input from a range of specialists
- Experience of the commercial management of projects
- A structured approach to governance, programme set-up and project controls
- Confidence operating and leading in formal project environments, including public sector governance frameworks
- Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
- An engineering background would be beneficial, although strong regeneration experience would also be highly relevant
- An understanding of industry recognised construction contracts (NEC, ICC and JCT)
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping and leading major public sector projects at an early stage, bringing together governance, strategy, stakeholder engagement and delivery planning. You will work with experienced project professionals in a collaborative consultancy environment, supporting high-profile work.
